Baristas of the third wave have transformed pour-over and batch brewed filter coffee from a culture of the bottomless cup, into a specialisation that parallels the achievements of the wine industry. Percolation brew methods allow us to produce our most velvety and clarified brews which is what makes this style of coffee beverage, the most thirst quenching and delicious of them all. The Percolation course is an exploration of the art and science of gravity fed, drip coffee in all its guises.
The course includes one year complete access to the Barista Hustle online Percolation course, which has been developed by world champion barista Matt Perger. This course boasts an collection of over 30 videos and 39 individual lessons.
Before the start of each module, participants will be required to complete a section of the online training, which typically takes around 1 hour. While the training briefly revisits the theory covered in the online modules, it swiftly transitions into hands-on practice.
Module I is dedicated to the best practice for weighing beverages, tracking temperature profiles and the interaction between time and grind settings.
In Module II we look at the complex variables of turbulence, bed depth and flow. We take a look at how the success of these interactions can help to counteract channeling and brew the perfect cup.
At the conclusion of the course, participants have the option to undertake an optional exam that assesses both practical and theoretical knowledge. Successful completion of the exam results in certification, which is included in the course fee.
While the individual modules can be booked and completed separately, please note that Module II requires prior completion of Module I.
