Long time no Burundi! 🇧🇮

You might remember our yeast inoculated natural Burundi from around this time last year. Well, now we’re bringing a washed one to your cups!

The Butegana washing station founded in 1952 was Burundi’s first washing station. Today, through Greenco company, it supports thousands of smallholder farmers, providing seedlings, fertilizer, agronomy training, and fair payment systems to the farmers.

After hand-picking, the coffee is placed into fermentation tanks and ferments with yeast that enhances its complexity, brightness, sweet notes, and juicy acidity.

You’ll taste notes of orange, strawberry and honey so next time when you’re grabbing your everyday coffee, don’t hesitate to try it! 🍊🍓🍯

Welcome a new part of our team, Vito, to help us get through the busy days of summer! 🇮🇹

Vito comes from Italy and arrived in Copenhagen just a couple of months ago. Right now, he’s still settling in but we’re sure he’ll be almost a local in no time.

Food has always been a big part of his life ever since he was a kid (coming from Italy it makes sense right? 🍝), so much so he decided to study Gastronomic Sciences at University of Parma. The sciency/geeky part is what got him into experimenting with sourdough and kombucha (and also why he fits so well in the team! 👯).

Apart from food, he is always on the go! You’ll find him playing padel, swimming or running. As a former Scout, he even walked Camino de Santiago. 🥾

At ROAST, he’s always happy to talk about coffee with you! His favourite coffee to brew is Colombian, and surprisingly as an Italian, Vito is not a fan of espresso (yet 😉).

Next time when you stop by, say hi and enjoy a nice cup of coffee brewed by him!

Someone said a new harvest from Brazil arrived? 😜

Fazenda Aranquã, a farm owned by Luca Allegro, has been our partner for a long time — and we’re excited to welcome a fresh new harvest of the Brazil we’ve loved and served over the years. 🇧🇷

The farm is located high in the mountains of Chapada Diamantina, in the northeast of Brazil. The coffee is shade-grown in an agroforestry system, hand-picked at peak ripeness by people that have worked there for over 15 years, and carefully processed to express the terroir as purely as possible.

The farm has followed certified organic and biodynamic practices since 2000, with a deep focus on biodiversity, soil health, and minimal intervention. The main objective is the balance between all the earth’s elements during production, seeking the highest self-sustained process possible.

As Luca says: “We feed the soil, not the plant.” 🌱

We gave you a little peak in our stories that we got A LOT of Brazilian coffee last week. It’s a new harvest from a farm that’s really close to our hearts, Fazenda Aranquã, that’s owned by Luca Allegro (more about that later in the week 😉). ⛰️

And new harvest of Brazil Fazenda Aranquã calls for an updated DUO! This time, we have decided to switch it up a little and after a long time of having Ethiopias in the blend, we’re using ⅓ of our Colombia Ciprés together with ⅔ of Brazil Fazenda Aranquã, that you all know and love. 🍎🍯🍫

Come by, taste the new blend in your favourite espresso based drink or even as a pour over and let us know what you think! 😍

A new natural processed coffee on the shelf — Rw

A new natural processed coffee on the shelf — Rwanda Mushonyi ✨

Grown near Lake Kivu, at elevations from 1,600-1,950 MASL, this coffee comes from around 1,200 smallholder farmers. Each one typically has just around 300 coffee trees, often alongside bananas and eucalyptus to generate additional income. 🍌

Mushonyi washing station has a unique history — it was built by the army to handle large volumes of cherries, and it is still maintained today even when the capacity exceeds the volume of coffee cherries being delivered. 🪖

After harvest, coffee cherries go through a strict sorting process: removing any lower quality fruit through flotation, followed by inspection for any visual defects by trained staff. Then they’re sun dried on raised beds and turned regularly.

The result of this long process? A beautifully smooth and balanced cup full of raspberries, apples and prunes in the taste. 🍎

We highly recommend trying it on espresso! 😉
