Brace yourself for one of the freshest, brightest cups of coffee you’ve ever had! Proudly introducing our new Burundian coffee: BDI16 MASHA

This fully washed, Red Bourbon coffee is cultivated at around 1,600 metres ASL in the region of Kayanza, North Burundi. Several smallholder farmers deliver their beans to the Masha washing station that is named after the hill it stands upon. Most of the farmers intercrop their trees with food crops to feed and support their families. The washing station supplies them with organic fertiliser made from composted coffee pulp to support future growth, and also ensures an excellent quality control of the delivered beans.

This coffee is juicy, clean and full-bodied, with taste notes of citrus fruits, honey and black tea🍊🍋☕

Fruity, floral, and sweet as chocolate – that’s how our new Ethiopian tastes like!

The iconic flavour notes develop while the beans are slowly ripening at an altitude of 1,950 metres ASL in the region of West Arsi. The local landraces create the delicate flavour notes that Ethiopian coffees are known for. Most of the farms in the region around Mundayo are producing their coffees organic-by-default, using very little to no fertilisers or pesticides🌱

Thanks to the washed processing method, the final cup is bright and clean with a crisp acidity and soft mouthfeel. Come try it as an espresso or pour over!

🎉THIS WAS 2024🎉

We are looking back to another GREAT year at ROAST filled with many amazing things and events:

In January, we put new labels on our coffee bags, focussing on processing and roast level (Agtron number).

Soon after, our new website was launched – with a whole new section for events, courses, B2B orders and more!💻

We had LOTS of new coffees throughout the year, among that our first geisha(s)🌸

No year could pass by with our dedicated baristas to compete🏋️ This year, we scored 5th place in the Cup Tasters Championship, 3rd place in the Latte Art Championship, and made it to the finals of the 2025 Nordics Best Roaster Competition (wish us luck for the final round in Gothenburg in March)!

The World of Coffee in June brought us some of the busiest days ever, with people from all over the World visiting our shops, and our baristas brewing like champs at Bella Centre for 3 days straight – what a summer!⛱️

Together with the Brazilian farmer Luca Allegro, we started a wonderful partnership and got our first Demeter-certified organic and biodynamic beans delivered to our roastery.🇧🇷

And last but not least, something BIG is coming up in 2025 that we’ve been working on throughout the year. Stay tuned #omggg

☕️COFFEE FACT OF THE MONTH☕️

Coffee is one of the most traded commodity in the whole world – in fact, the second most imported one – only beaten by oil. The high amounts produced every year, paired with the high demand makes it quite a volatile one to trade. Coffee has always been prone to high swings in price. And here’s why:

The price for coffee massively differs depending on the type – Arabica or Robusta. The varietals are traded on different exchanges: while Arabica is traded at the ICE in New York (known as the ‘C market’), the LIFFE in London trades Robusta. Both exchanges set the price for coffee, the so-called ’C price’.

There are many triggers for the C price to change. Climate change, coffee plant diseases and other agricultural challenges can affect a farmer’s crop drastically, often leaving them with no choice than raising the price for their beans. As seen on many other markets, rising transport and shipping costs are another reason for the coffee price to go up. Arabica being traded and priced in US$ makes it prone to price swings as well, depending on how the dollar increases or falls. Political events, crises and decisions certainly affect the coffee production, demand and supply as well. And last but not least, speculations and traders’ actions define the futures price of coffee, being listed the stock exchange after all.

Many (more) reasons can be named for the ever-changing coffee price, which by the way has reached its historical peak this year in November. Being aware of how the pricing and hard work all along the coffee supply chain work helps us understand and appreciate the product – which at the end of the day we love so much.
